Vol. 3 No. 1 - March 2018
On the Road to Success.
2018 so far & what's ahead.
A message from our President, Scott Burgess.
It's the year 2018 and Jonas Fitness continues to get better.
Over the last quarter, our development teams successfully completed and delivered their scheduled Compete® winter releases.
You can view a full list of enhancements and resolved issues within those releases if you click here.
Our next-gen development team has been extremely busy working on our new, Empower M.E member portal which had releases in, both, December and March. To learn more, click here to watch an introductory webinar.
Last week, we set up shop in sunny San Diego for the annual IHRSA tradeshow. At the show we unveiled our two new product offerings: Compete Insight and Compete Connect.
We'll send out some more information and host some webinars on these products within the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can get a head-start and learn more about these products here.
Back in the heartland of Columbus, Ohio - our Voice of the Customer development crew has been extremely busy working on fulfilling customer requests. So far, they have completed over 76 enhancements that were a part of our winter releases and are targeting to release 38 enhancements in April!
Not to be outdone, the API development team was able to add the following new integrations this quarter: Fitness BI, Camp Management, Gym Cloud, High Visibility, Grow Digitally, and Promotion Vault.
Just as a reminder, you can view a complete list of all of our integrators by going to our partner’s page.
In addition, the i4™ development team has been working on their next release targeted for April. This release will add Discover to Account Updater services, enhance Join Online & include a Biometric Authorization disclaimer.
To show off just a little bit more, the team also added 14 new API’s to our new common data services, added new API integrations with VFP & Virtual Gym, and performed upgrades to the i4 SQL and .net framework.
And finally, our multi-million dollar investment in refreshing our data center infrastructure and hardware at our Tier 1 PCI compliant data center officially went live in January.
The brand-new, state of the art hardware and infrastructure provides improved performance across the board for our i4™ and Compete® software systems.
So, these are a few of the things that we've done so far. 2018 is a year that we are very excited for - with new and improved software and product offerings coming your way.
The road may be long and winding, but, as you can see, we've hit the ground running.
As always, we thank you for your business. We look forward to our growing partnership and what's on the road ahead.
Scott Burgess, President at Jonas Fitness
IHRSA 2018 Recap
Featuring the JFI Squad
Last week, the annual IHRSA tradeshow took place in sunny San Diego!
As always, Jonas Fitness had a significant presence at the show - with a team of highly motivated software ninjas committed to adding even more people to the growing #JONASFAM.
We are proud to say that the show was a tremendous success. We were able to meet with current and prospective clients, chat with some of our channel partners, and, most importantly, spread the word on how Jonas is helping club operators manage their facilities more effectively.
Just look at these gorgeous people! Who wouldn't want to stop by the booth!?
As tends to be the case in almost any place he sets foot, Brian O'Leary just couldn't seem to shake the paparazzi. On this occasion, however, it was for a noble cause.
Check out this one-on-one IHRSA interview featuring Brian where he talks about the Jonas roadmap, the products and offerings we highlighted in the show and the future of the industry!
All in all, it was a great show. We want to thank all of our clients who paid us a visit in San Diego. We wouldn't be here without you, and you constantly motivate us to improve and be better.
ValleyHealth Wellness & Fitness Center
ValleyHealth is located in the main campus of a Level II trauma hospital system in Winchester, VA. They have a staff of over 80 team members & serve a membership base of over 5,300.
We had a chance to get a quick Q&A session with Jeff Jeran, Director at ValleyHealth Wellness & Fitness Center, to learn how Compete helps him run a successful facility.
Check out what he had to say...
Q. Jeff, tell us about your role at ValleyHealth.
A. As Director, my focus is mostly on the day-to-day operations of the center. It's almost never the same day – you never know what you’re getting on a daily basis.
I work with management and staff as well as with the hospital system to ensure everything is running smoothly.
Q. What, originally, was the deciding factor in choosing Jonas as your software provider over the rest?
A. I’ve been with Valley for about 12 years. In that time, we've always been associated with Jonas in some shape or form throughout it's various iterations.
What has kept us at Jonas are really the relationships that have been forged over time. Jonas truly listens to our feedback. When we have a problem they work with us to provide a solution.
It's been my experience in working with other software companies that this level of customer service and flexibility is really hard to find. I'm confident in saying that I’ve found that and more with Jonas and the Compete product.
Q. Do you feel like the software has improved your club's operational efficiencies? How so?
A. Definitely has. A few years ago we were in a situation where we were seeing about 46% attrition throughout our facility. As a monthly membership type facility, it may not be uncommon to have attrition, but that number was too high.
Compete has allowed us to become more efficient in handling members and improving their satisfaction. To this end, the hub and spoke model provided by Jonas really helped out.
Using Compete as the hub alongside integrated companies like FitRewards, TRP and MiGym we were able to push members forward in their member journey and improve our retention numbers.
2017 was our best year in all metrics: Income, new members, net members... And our attrition rates were at our lowest level ever! I attribute that to the comprehensive approach that Jonas takes to provide solutions for these issues.

Assigning Plans to Multiple Clubs: i4
You can now quickly assign a plan as a “Featured Plan” to multiple clubs using the Assign button on the Global Plan Settings page:
When you click the Assign clubs button, the page listing the clubs appears, letting you select the clubs that this plan can be sold at.
Using the Filters area at the top of the page, you can quickly search for clubs by keyword or state. If a club is already using the plan, a green note appears that the plan is already featured by the club.
If the club already has 4 featured plans, a red note appears. A club can only have 4 featured plans at a time. You can then click the Reconcile button to display the featured plans (in addition to the plan selected) so that you can deselect one of the other featured plans if desired.
A success message appears when the On/Off option for the plans are changed.
